This morning, Stephen Murray announced his resignation as Mayor of the City of Beaufort, effective immediately. Members of the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce applaud Murray for his focus on job creation and government efficiency during his tenure on City Council and as Mayor.
In his resignation letter, Murray cited his desire to, “focus more on my family, my friends, my businesses, and my health.” Murray is a small business owner and the father of two young children. We appreciate the need to find a healthy balance among multiple demanding obligations.
We will continue to partner with the City of Beaufort on our many shared priorities to include affordable housing for our workforce, military base enhancement, and streamlining project approval processes. The board of directors and staff of the Beaufort Regional Chamber wish Mayor Murray the best of luck in the future and stand ready to support City Manager Scott Marshall, City staff, and members of City Council through this transition and into the future.
